You don't have to cope or struggle feeling alone!

Life can be complicated, messy, and overwhelming. If you’re struggling with relationships, facing a personal crisis, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer feel right, counselling with me offers a safe, gentle space where you can slow down, be heard, and begin to make sense of what’s going on.

I work with individuals, couples, teens and young adults on a range of issues, including:

Anxiety, stress & low mood
When daily life, work, family, or relationships feel heavy, counselling can help you find ways to carry the weight more gently and reconnect with a sense of calm.

Relationship challenges
From communication breakdowns to rebuilding trust, or rethinking how your relationship feels and functions, we can explore what’s getting in the way and what you truly need.

Grief & loss
Whether it’s bereavement, separation, or other big life changes, I offer a kind space to sit with your sadness, honor what’s been lost, and discover how to move forward at your own pace.

Self‑esteem, anger & personal growth
If you’ve been hard on yourself, carrying anger, or feeling stuck, we can gently explore the roots of those feelings and begin building a stronger, more compassionate relationship with yourself.

Trauma
Healing isn’t about erasing the past; it’s about making sense of what happened, learning to feel safer in your body and your life, and slowly reconnecting with yourself, others, and the present.

Identity exploration
Understanding who you are, what you value, and how you relate to your sexuality, gender, or place in the world can be a powerful part of healing and growth.

At the heart of my work is a simple belief:

people can grow, heal, and find a way forward.

Compassionate, tailored support for you!

Individual Therapy

One-to-one therapy is a private space where you can bring whatever is on your mind and be met with warmth, care, and understanding. My approach is calm, compassionate, and non-judgmental, giving you room to talk openly at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I work in a flexible, person-centred way, so each session is shaped around what you need most, with the aim of helping you feel heard, supported, and less alone.

Supporting young adults

Working with teens and young people means offering a space where they can feel safe, respected, and free to be themselves. I aim to build trust gently, without pressure, so they can explore whatever is going on for them in a way that feels comfortable and manageable. My approach is warm, accepting, and flexible, helping young people feel heard while supporting them to make sense of their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Couples Counseling

Couples and relationship therapy offers a safe, supportive space where you can both talk openly and feel heard. I work in a calm, compassionate, and non‑judgmental way, helping you explore the patterns and challenges in your relationship while gently strengthening communication and understanding. My approach is flexible and person‑centred, so sessions are tailored to your needs and paced in a way that feels comfortable for both of you.

Group work.

Group work offers a supportive environment where people can connect with others who may be facing similar challenges. I create a safe, respectful space where each person has the opportunity to be heard and to learn from shared experiences. My approach is compassionate and inclusive, and I also include breath and relaxation exercises, visualisation, and guided meditation to help the group feel calmer, more grounded, and more present. This combination supports both personal reflection and collective growth at a comfortable pace.

Meet your Therapist

I’m a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental counsellor, and I believe that meaningful change begins when people feel safe, understood, and accepted for who they are. I aim to offer a space where you can be open, honest, and truly heard, and where we can work together in a way that feels respectful, supportive, and right for you.

My journey into counselling came after many years of working in different roles, including running my own property and gardening maintenance business. Looking back, the common thread throughout my working life was people — communication, trust, and genuine connection. Even so, I still wasn’t sure what I truly wanted to do. That changed when I joined a weight loss program that included counselling. With the support of my counsellor, I began to understand myself more deeply, not just around food and habits, but in a much wider sense. Towards the end of the program, I was encouraged to consider counselling training, and once I began, I knew I had found something that really mattered to me.

What drew me to counselling then is the same thing that continues to guide me now — the opportunity to help people feel less alone, to support them through difficult or painful experiences, and to gently explore the beliefs and patterns that may be holding them back. I don’t believe one approach suits everyone, so I work flexibly and organically, allowing therapy to unfold at your pace and in a way that fits what you need.

I have been working as a qualified counsellor since 2018, with experience in private practice in Northwich, Cheshire, as well as hospice counselling with St Luke’s. During my time there, I worked with families, children, and patients facing loss and grief, and I continued as a volunteer counsellor until 2021. I later qualified as a trauma-informed therapist, and I continue to develop this area of my practice.

Alongside my counselling work, I have coached rugby at Winnington RUFC for 12 years. That role has taught me patience, consistency, encouragement, and the value of helping people grow in confidence over time — qualities that also shape the way I work with clients.

I work with teenagers, adults, and couples, supporting people who may feel stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, burnt out, low in mood, or struggling with relationships, communication, or sexual issues. I offer both face-to-face counselling in Northwich and online sessions for clients locally, nationally, and internationally.

"Working with Martin over the past few years has made such a positive difference in my life. I first started seeing him after a difficult breakup, and since then he has supported me through a range of different life events from starting my postgraduate career (and all the anxiety that came with it!) to navigating some tough family situations.

No matter the circumstances, he always has a way of making things manageable, even when they really don’t feel it at first. The coping strategies he has shared have been genuinely helpful and easy to apply in real life situations.

Martin always listens; he is genuinely warm and easy to talk to. He creates a space that feels safe and relaxed, which makes opening up so much easier. I always come away from our sessions feeling more confident, more grounded, and better equipped to handle whatever comes next.

I’m really grateful for his support and would absolutely recommend him!"

"We found Martin via a friend's recommendation and we're so glad we did. He has guided us through a very challenging time with couples therapy as well as individual one on one sessions. Martin's calm, balanced and real-world support and guidance has been invaluable. His ability to understand and help work through issues with pragmatism and appropriate challenge is great. He has provided fantastic support for both of us and continues to be available when we need help refocusing."
